Khair-ul-Manazil is located just opposite to the Old Fort. Khair-ul-Manazil means
the best of houses. It was built by Maham Anga, who was the wet nurse of Mughal emperor Akbar. Maham Anga is also referred as Akbar’s foster mother, as his own mother Hamida Banu Begum was mostly away with his father Humayun in exile. It was built during 1561-62.
Lal Darwaza, the Red Gate, is close to the Khair-ul_Manazil. It is also known as the Sher Shah Suri Gate. Sher Shah Suri developed the Dina-panah city founded by Humayun and named it Shergarh during his reign from 1540 to 1545. Lal Darwaza was the south gate to Shergarh.
